Just a brief update on our meeting on 2nd May 2017 with Mr Peat from Harworth Estates, owners of the Butterwell Branch.
At the meeting, we discussed our plans to date, and were informed of the latest developments with commercial operators. From this, we are adjusting our development plan with the idea of an approach from the southern end of the branch; just north of Ashington town centre.
This stretch was previously a longer term aspiration, but as a section isolated from other stretches of working railway, and also convieniently situated near to transport connections, it may in some ways be of great benefit to our scheme as opposed to a drawback.
Our present objective therefore is to redraw our plans to suit this alternative location, and make contact with Northumberland County Council once these plans are drawn up in more detail.
