While it’s perhaps unusual for a Railway Association to post about woodland walks, this area is exactly where we intend to develop our ‘Hirst to New Moor’ stretch (please see our May Update (19.05.17). The maps also handily show this area in great detail!
The Ashington Community Woods (Ashington Woods link here), is developed both sides of the southern end of the Butterwell Branch, a stretch of line we hope to reopen to rail traffic to encourage its retention as a future strategic link in the local rail network.
While we are working towards the re-opening, why not enjoy a walk around the woodland? For maps, please click this link: Ashington Community Woods – Maps
